Nix Elected to State Association

Nix Elected to Office with State Tourism Association

Beckie Nix, Director of the Lynchburg Regional Convention and Visitors Bureau has been elected as Vice President of Tourism of the Virginia Association of Convention and Visitors Bureaus (VACVB). The election came at the end of the three day long Virginia Tourism Summit in Fairfax sponsored annually by VACVB. The summit offers professional development training and industry networking opportunities, and this year featured speakers Governor Bob McDonnell, Delegate Dave Nutter, and the President and CEO of the Virginia Chamber of Commerce, Hugh Keogh.

“It was a real boost to hear Governor McDonnell speak; he campaigned on the importance of strong and continued investment in Tourism, and understands that tourism is a way to increase revenue, not only for the state, but for each locality in Virginia” said Nix. “Too many are quick to make ‘cuts in spending’ the only answer to budget struggles, when a proven way to increase revenue is staring them in the face” Nix added. According to the US Travel Data Center/Dept of Commerce, and the Virginia Tourism Corporation, every dollar invested in tourism brings a minimum return of 5 dollars…and in the same calendar year. “As the Governor said; ‘show me any line item with that type of return’,” Nix added. And to show his commitment, Governor McDonnell has already increased funding to the Virginia Tourism Corporation this year, and plans to double their budget during his administration.

The Virginia Association of Convention and Visitors Bureau serves to offer tourism professionals and Destination Marketing Organizations around the State of Virginia advocacy, networking and professional development opportunities for the purpose of member destination success. “I am honored to serve in this capacity and to represent Lynchburg with VACVB. I look forward to being involved in the activities which will help strengthen the tourism industry and have a positive economic impact on Lynchburg, our region and the entire commonwealth” Nix said.
